Multistage hierarchical capture–recapture models

Ecologists increasingly rely on Bayesian methods to fit capture–recapture models. Capture–recapture models are used estimate abundance while accounting for imperfect detectability in individual-level data. A variety of implementations exist such models, including integrated likelihood, parameter-expanded data augmentation, and combinations those. with latent random effects can be computationally intensive using conventional algorithms. We identify alternative specifications by considering a conditional representation the model structure. The resulting specified way that leads more stable computation allows us desired stages leveraging parallel computing resources. Our specification includes component capture history detected individuals another sample size which is before observed. demonstrate this approach three examples simulation two datasets from studies different species.
